Thousands rally outside Madrid Education Department on second strike day

Thousands rally outside Madrid Education Department demanding higher salaries.

Around 10,000 people rallied outside Madrid’s regional Education Department on Thursday, October 15, the second day of an indefinite strike, demanding higher salaries, smaller classes and shorter teaching hours.

Unions are seeking an extra 600 euros a month, fewer teaching hours and fewer students per classroom. "We live in Madrid – one of the most expensive regions in Spain – and we are the lowest-paid teachers," said Isabel Sanz, a primary school teacher.
