A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the United States never dares to carry out a land invasion of Iran.
Even the most hawkish officials in Washington know that such a scenario would lead to devastating consequences for the US military, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said.
Naqdi, who serves as a high-profile advisor to the IRGC chief commander, made the comments on Tuesday in response to speculations that the US would deploy troops to Iran months after its joint aerial aggression with Israel against the country failed for good.
"I think that even in very private American meetings, there has been no discussion of a ground attack at all. They talk about this in media propaganda, but even in secret and in each other's ears, they have not spoken about a ground attack; because they know what will happen to them," Naqdi said.
The commander made a comparison between a potential US invasion of Iran and similar ground operations in Iraq and Afghanistan which began two decades ago, cost the US some $7 trillion and ended in bitter failure.

He said so many US service members will be captured in a potential ground attack on Iran that the Americans will have no option left but to surrender and raise the white flag after only 20 days.
"Which calculating person would be willing to decide on a ground attack considering such an experience? The fate of a ground attack is the same."
The veteran IRGC general said US warships have been wandering around in Persian Gulf waters since the start of the aggression on Iran in late February without being able to approach military bases and logistics hubs that are close to Iran.
"They have been present in the Persian Gulf for 100 years, but since the start of the war they have fled and cannot come within a thousand kilometers because they know what might happen to them," he said.
