Six researchers from Iran’s Royan Institute have been recognized in the latest edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list for 2025, highlighting the institute’s continued contribution to scientific research and its international standing in biomedical sciences.
The list, published on October 7, 2026, recognizes researchers based on their scientific performance and the impact of their work during 2025.
The six researchers are Dr. Hossein Baharvand, Dr. Mohammad Hossein Nasr-Esfahani, Dr. Mohammad Reza Baghban Islami, Dr. Reza Omrani-Samani, Dr. Masoud Vosough, and Dr. Ashraf Moini.
All are affiliated with Royan Institute, which operates under Iran’s Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR).
The World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking is compiled using data from the Scopus citation database in collaboration with Stanford University and published by Elsevier.
It assesses researchers across a broad range of scientific disciplines and subfields using citation-based indicators and research-performance metrics, including total citations, the Hirsch index (h-index), and a composite C-score.
According to reported figures, five Royan Institute researchers were included in the ranking in 2023, followed by four in 2024 and five in 2025, before the number rose to six in the latest assessment.
Royan Institute scientists have also received recognition in other major international research rankings.
In June, Dr. Hossein Baharvand and Dr. Faezeh Shekari were named among the world’s top 1% most highly cited researchers according to Essential Science Indicators (ESI), compiled by Clarivate.
The distinction reflects the citation impact of their publications compared with research output worldwide over a rolling 10-year period.
Royan Institute is one of Iran’s leading biomedical research centers, internationally known for its work in reproductive medicine, infertility treatment, embryology, stem cell research, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology.
The institute also works on developing biological products and recombinant proteins while providing specialized clinical services in infertility treatment and cell therapy.
The repeated inclusion of its researchers in international citation-based rankings underscores Royan Institute’s sustained research activity and its contribution to scientific advancement in Iran and the wider international research community.
