Iran has inflicted “heavy blows” on US forces at sea, forcing them to retreat farther from the maritime borders of the Islamic Republic, says a senior Iranian naval commander.
Rear Admiral Faramarz Bemani, deputy commander of Iran’s naval forces, made the remarks in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Monday, discussing the Navy’s achievements during the US-Israeli war against Iran, which began in late February.
“The enemy has significantly retreated from Iran’s maritime borders and is now farther away than at any point during the third imposed war.”
Like other branches of Iran’s Armed Forces, he added, the Navy has been working to develop new equipment, some of which had already been produced and was ready for use.
Bemani said the naval forces had examined the enemy’s weaknesses following both previous wars waged by the United States and Israel and had been producing new weapons accordingly.
"In response to the new tactics the enemy employs, Iran also adopts new tactics."
The commander warned that if the enemy repeats another strategic miscalculation, the Iranian Army’s Navy would respond in such a way that the enemy retreats even farther.
Bemani also said the Army Navy had adopted a strategy of “resistance and confrontation with threats” in response to the naval blockade.
“We will employ equipment to counter this blockade, and the rest of our actions will be announced in the future.”
Bemani’s remarks come amid continued tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has maintained full control over the strategic waterway since the outbreak of the US-Israeli aggression in February.
Commercial traffic through the strait has fallen sharply, with vessel movements dropping to single digits amid the ongoing war on Iran and the restrictions on shipping through the strategic waterway.
Tehran has said it will not reopen the waterway until the United States meets its demands and takes steps to restore Iran's trust.
