In US geopolitics, proxies are discarded when they are no longer useful: Analyst

Greg Simons says the rift between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s president reflects a recurring feature of US geopolitics, in which allies and proxies are abandoned when they cease to serve strategic interests.

Greg Simons, Professor of Journalism at Daffodil International University in Dhaka, says the rift between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky reflects a recurring feature of US geopolitics, in which allies and proxies are abandoned when they cease to serve strategic interests.

According to Simons, Zelensky has become increasingly vulnerable politically and no longer occupies a position that allows him to shape the course of events independently.

Simons also casts doubt on Trump's claims about a possible agreement with Russia, arguing that the president's public messaging is focused primarily on projecting success rather than delivering measurable results.

He says both Trump and Zelensky are facing growing political pressures, while warning that any military defeat for Ukraine would translate into a broader political setback not only for Kiev, but also for Europe and the US.
