A Republican member of the US House of Representatives has called out her own colleagues’ “hypocrisy” for pushing continued arms supplies to Ukraine while profiting from the war through stock market manipulation and obstructing efforts to negotiate peace.

Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican congresswoman from Florida, took to X on Saturday to condemn the growing chorus of US lawmakers who have publicly opposed President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Luna stated that these elected officials have neither consulted the administration nor possess any understanding of what is actually being offered to Ukraine or how a related trade agreement could benefit the American public.

“This war has to end. Thousands of people are being killed, and the fact that elected officials are calling for continued US supply of munitions to NATO—and thus to Ukraine—highlights the hypocrisy of the situation,” Luna wrote. “Are we to keep supplying munitions and allow the war to drag on indefinitely?”

In one of the most striking elements of her statement, Luna denounced her fellow Congress members for using the war as a vehicle for personal enrichment.

She said that since the outset of the war, too many lawmakers have been occupied with traveling to Ukraine on official congressional delegations, known as CODELs, while simultaneously “playing the stock market getting rich off the war.”

Instead of pursuing diplomatic solutions, Luna argued, these officials have been “advocating to continue a conflict with no end in sight.”

“This is wrong. Our position should first and foremost have been to negotiate peace,” she stated. “From the beginning of the war, the United States should have led discussions to end it.”

Luna also criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for obstructing diplomatic progress, stating that he is “intentionally stalling the peace talks.”

She acknowledged that she had faced backlash for making this claim but insisted, “It is the truth. The war needs to end.”

Luna’s remarks underscore the deepening fractures within the US political establishment over the direction of the Ukraine war.

As the war grinds into its fourth year with no end in sight, a growing faction of lawmakers, particularly within the Republican Party, has begun challenging the bipartisan consensus of unconditional military support for Kiev, citing the staggering financial cost to American taxpayers and the risk of direct confrontation with nuclear-armed Russia.
