Israel has killed eight Palestinians, including an eight-year-old girl, in Gaza on the first anniversary of a US-supported ceasefire, as the regime’s attacks and restrictions on the besieged territory continue.

An eight-year-old girl, Shahd Abdul-Razzaq al-Najjar, was killed by an Israeli quadcopter drone in the al-Jawazat area of western Gaza City on Sunday, local media quoted a source from the ambulance and emergency services as saying.

Four Palestinians were killed and several others injured in a separate Israeli bombing near the Haider Abdel Shafi roundabout, al-Shifa Hospital reported, while another Palestinian was killed in a drone attack in the Tuffah neighborhood.

In southern Gaza, a woman died from injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli attack, according to medical sources.

The attacks came a year after Israel and the Palestinians resistance movement Hamas agreed to a US-backed ceasefire plan aimed at halting Israel’s attacks on Gaza and paving the way for a broader settlement.

Under the agreement, Israel was obligated to withdraw its forces to around half of Gaza, halt aerial and artillery attacks, release Palestinian prisoners and abductees, and allow humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.

Hamas was required to release all Israeli captives. While Hamas fulfilled its obligations under the agreement, Israel continued its attacks and restrictions on humanitarian aid and reconstruction.

“The rhythm of the genocide has not changed … it has fluctuated in intensity, but the danger has not gone away,” said a reporter in Gaza, adding, “That is why people believe that it has more consequences, far beyond the immediate loss of life.”

On Friday, more than 100 humanitarian, human rights and civil society organizations said in a joint statement that “The ceasefire exists in name only, with Israeli forces continuing to kill and injure Palestinians daily, and restrictions on aid, equipment and rebuilding materials preventing families from recovering.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 74,370 Palestinians and wounded 175,371 others, according to the Gaza Health Ministry’s figures reported on October 10.
