Yemen has denounced Saudi Arabia’s continued airstrikes, artillery shelling and inhumane blockade, vowing to counter the "Riyadh regime’s" ongoing aggression and warning that it understands only the language of force.

In a statement issued on Friday, Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the "atrocities being perpetrated by the House of Saud in Yemen place a heavy responsibility on the international community, whose incapacity, complicity and hollow slogans had been exposed by its failure to stop the aggression."

The statement added that constant acts of aggression by the "criminal Saudi regime" against several areas across Yemen confirm that it "only understands the language of force.”

It also highlighted the Yemeni Armed Forces’ announcement of a list of legitimate targets, established on the principle of reciprocity, and called on all parties to stay away from the designated locations.

The statement warned that Saudi-backed mercenary forces operating on Yemeni soil were destined for defeat and would bear the gravest consequences of their actions.

The Yemeni foreign ministry stressed that exercising full national sovereignty over all Yemeni territory is a legitimate right guaranteed under international norms and conventions.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said the country’s military units have confronted Saudi-sponsored mercenaries, as they attempted to advance in the southwestern province of Lahij along the coast of Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Saree noted that the Saudi-backed militiamen were forced to retreat for the second time within hours.

The development comes amid mounting tensions between Riyadh and Sana’a, after Yemen declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia on July 20 in response to “an unfair and tyrannical siege” imposed on the country for nearly 12 years.

The Yemeni military has since announced several successful operations targeting ships linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched a sweeping military campaign against Yemen in March 2015, imposing a blockade that has devastated the country. The aggression was backed by military, political and logistical support from the United States and several Western countries.

The war has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis. However, Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its stated objective of reinstating a puppet regime in the country that serves its interests.
