New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called for an end to US support for Israel, denouncing Washington’s “complicity” in the regime’s genocidal war on Gaza as Palestinians mark three years since the Israeli regime launched the devastating war.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mamdani criticized Washington for its “complicity with every arms shipment” to Tel Aviv, urging people to reject “a world in which occupation and apartheid continue.”

Referring to October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza, Mamdani said the suffering “did not begin nor end that day.”

Israeli forces have killed at least 74,243 Palestinians in Gaza since October 7, 2023. At least 1,460 Palestinians have also been killed since the so-called ceasefire took effect on October 11, 2025, as Israel has continued its attacks and expanded its control over the besieged territory.

“To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity,” the New York City mayor said.

US administrations, under both former President Joe Biden and current President Donald Trump, have provided Israel with extensive military assistance since October 7, 2023, much of it without any conditions.

US weapons and military systems form a major part of the Israeli military’s arsenal, including aircraft, heavy munitions, tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as air-defense systems such as Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Iron Beam.

Rights groups have repeatedly documented the use of US-made weapons in attacks that have killed civilians in Gaza and elsewhere in the region.

Since October 7, 2023, the United States has allocated at least $25.5 billion in appropriations to Israel, with the funds coming from the US federal budget and, ultimately, American taxpayers.
