Yemen says Hamas’s surprise Operation al-Aqsa Flood, carried out alongside other Gaza-based resistance groups against Israel, was a direct consequence of the Tel Aviv regime’s decades-long occupation and grave atrocities against the Palestinian people.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the anti-Israel operation was an inevitable consequence of decades of Israeli occupation, the tight siege imposed on Gaza, the appalling hardships endured by Palestinians, and the massacres perpetrated against the Palestinian people.

It was also the natural result of constant Israeli desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied Old City of al-Quds, blatant violations of Palestinian prisoners' rights, expansion of illegal settlements, and the international community's failure to assume its responsibilities towards Palestinians, the statement added.

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry further noted that the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 operation comes as Israel continues to commit the most heinous and blatant war crimes and acts of genocide against Palestinians.

The statement highlighted that Israeli brutalities have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 74,000 Palestinians and the injury of over 175,000 others, most of them women and children, while destroying civilian infrastructure and inflicting unimaginable suffering on the Palestinian people.

The Yemeni ministry emphasized that Israel had failed to achieve its declared objectives, while Operation al-Aqsa Flood had brought the Palestinian cause back to the forefront, thwarted Israel’s efforts to normalize ties with Arab countries across West Asia and North Africa, shattered the regime’s myth of invincibility, and demonstrated that Israel is weaker than a spider’s web.

The statement also reaffirmed the Palestinians’ legitimate right to self-defense and their right to protect their homeland and sacred sites, as well as to exercise their fundamental rights enshrined in international principles and conventions.

It praised the Palestinians’ determined steadfastness, which had astonished the world, and paid tribute to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian resistance factions, as well as Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, the Islamic Republic of Iran and other forces of the Axis of Resistance.

They all made enormous and heroic sacrifices in support of the Palestinian cause, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry pointed out.

The ministry stressed that the international community must fulfill its moral and legal obligations to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza and bring an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
