Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni says he had constructive talks with Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani during his visit to Doha, where he conveyed a message from President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Momeni said, “We had constructive discussions with the Emir of Qatar on issues between the two countries.”
“There were several issues that President Pezeshkian asked us to convey on his behalf.”
Momeni said Iran and Qatar enjoyed “brotherly” relations.
“The Emir of Qatar welcomed the points raised by President Pezeshkian, and he also had views and proposals regarding regional developments that he asked me to convey to the president,” the Iranian minister said.
Momeni also said he also held an extensive meeting with Qatar’s interior minister on Tuesday.
“It was agreed that a joint working group comprising representatives of the two ministries be formed to follow up on the agreed-upon decisions.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Momeni said a technical delegation will travel to Qatar to continue discussions over the situation of Iranian pilots held in Qatar since the US-Israeli aggression began in February.
The Iranian interior minister also praised Qatar’s mediating role in regional developments, alongside Pakistan. “We discussed regional developments and expressed our appreciation for the fair and mediating role of Qatar, together with Pakistan,” he said.
