Saudi-led war on Yemen

This episode looks at Yemen’s growing regional role and whether Saudi offensive, backed by Washington, risks triggering a wider conflict.

Yemen is once again emerging as a major regional flashpoint, with Washington now playing an increasingly direct role.

Saudi Arabia has launched a major offensive against Ansarullah, seeking to roll back its recent gains along the Red Sea coast and around the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.

But as Saudi warplanes strike Yemen, more than 200 US intelligence and military personnel are reportedly operating inside Saudi command centers, helping analyze and select targets, while Washington is also providing aerial refueling support.

Sana’a, meanwhile, has already issued a stark warning to Riyadh: “capital for capital.”

So is Saudi Arabia seeking to restore deterrence—or opening another conflict that could put Saudi cities, energy infrastructure and one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints at risk?
