Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian meets with Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan on October 5.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed negotiations with the United States as “meaningless,” saying Washington carries out an act of aggression against the Islamic Republic whenever the two sides engage in talks.

“Our problem with the US is that every time we come to the negotiating table, war is immediately imposed upon us,” Pezeshkian said at a meeting with Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday.

“So far, they have attacked us three times after talks, and this shows that they are not seeking dialogue,” he added.

The president stressed that the Iranian nation opposes talks with Washington over its repeated violations of its commitments.

“Negotiations with an enemy that engages every day in assassinations, sanctions, pressure, and threats, and that violates agreements, are meaningless. Our people do not accept such an approach either,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian called for enhancing ties with Yerevan.

“We must further expand relations between the two countries in the fields of trade, science, culture, and technology, and help each other in this endeavor,” he stated.

For his part, Mirzoyan hailed the progress made in friendly relations between Iran and Armenia despite the sanctions.

“At the international level, cooperation between the two countries is also proceeding well, and despite the sanctions, we are vigorously pursuing our engagements with Iran.”

The minister stressed that his country is peace-loving and seeks to achieve peace, while acknowledging that this path is not easy.

The US and Israel launched another round of aggression against Iran on February 28, some eight months after carrying out unprovoked attacks on the country.

Iran swiftly retaliated by launching barrages of missiles and drones at the Israeli-occupied territories, as well as US bases and interests across the region.

The United States has perpetrated numerous violations against Iranian territory since April 7, when US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire in the latest bout of American-Israeli aggression targeting the Islamic Republic.

The violations continued even after Washington and Tehran signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding in June, whose first clause clearly mandates cessation of aggression on all fronts.

Renewed US strikes have once again triggered Iranian retaliation.
