The Hamas resistance movement has urged the international community to exercise prompt diplomatic pressure on Israeli authorities to halt their systematic violations against the education sector in the occupied Palestinian territories and facilitate unobstructed access for students and teachers to their schools.

“After three years of educational and cultural genocide, the fascist occupation regime has destroyed over 90% of school and university infrastructure in Gaza and killed more than 1,050 teachers,” the Gaza-based group said in a statement on Monday on the occasion of World Teachers' Day.

It stressed that these crimes place responsibility on the international community to criminalize and halt them, and to support the Palestinian education sector.

“We salute the teachers and their role in our people's struggle [...] despite the genocide, limited resources, and escalating violations,” Hamas stated.

The resistance movement highlighted that Israeli authorities’ attempts to impose their school curriculum in al-Quds will not erase the occupied city’s Arab and Muslim identity.

It finally called on Arab and Muslim states and freedom-loving peoples worldwide “to protect and support the educational system in Gaza, the West Bank, and al-Quds.”

The Palestinian Education Ministry said on Sunday that Israel has killed more than 800 Palestinian teachers and injured over 3,300 others since the start of its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.

The ministry called on the international community, the United Nations, as well as education and human rights organizations to implement immediate measures to mitigate violations and extend international safeguards to learners and educational staff.

It also urged international labor organizations to push for the freedom of imprisoned instructors and the restoration of withheld compensation packages, thereby enabling teaching professionals to maintain a dignified standard of living.
