Iran claimed its first-ever Asian Games padel medal after Farsad Shahi and Amirmohammad Jamshidi defeated compatriots Hami Golestan and Arya Roghani 2-0 in the men’s pairs bronze-medal match in Nagoya.
Shahi and Jamshidi won 6-3, 6-4 at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center on Saturday to secure third place in the inaugural Asian Games padel competition.
The all-Iranian medal match followed a strong run by both Iranian pairs. Golestan and Roghani reached the semifinals after defeating Japan’s Teruaki Ando and Shinnosuke Nakamura 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals, while Shahi and Jamshidi beat Japan’s Kenta Tomita and Hiroki Hatakeyama 6-1, 7-6.
Neither pair, however, managed to reach the final. Golestan and Roghani lost 6-4, 6-2 to Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf and Mishari Nawaf, while Shahi and Jamshidi were beaten 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 by Malaysia’s Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus.
The bronze was particularly significant for Iran as padel is making its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Iran’s medal was secured before the bronze-medal match itself, as both Iranian pairs advanced to the semifinals and guaranteed the country a place on the podium.
