Bernie Sanders warns AIPAC plans $233M push against Netanyahu critics in US midterms

US Senator Bernie Sanders

US Senator Bernie Sanders says the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is preparing to spend $233 million to defeat congressional candidates who criticize Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming US midterm elections.

The pro-Israeli lobby group “plans to spend $233 million to defeat candidates who dare to speak out against Netanyahu’s extremist government,” Sanders wrote on Friday, noting that the group had already spent $33 million to defeat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan’s Democratic primary.

“They lost. They are going to keep losing,” Sanders added, framing the expenditure as evidence that massive spending cannot suppress dissent on US foreign policy toward Israel and Palestine.

El-Sayed, who is seeking a Senate seat in Michigan, has built his campaign on opposing military aid to the Israeli regime and condemning Netanyahu’s cabinet’s genocidal actions against Palestinians.

“NO MORE US MILITARY AID FOR ISRAEL,” Sanders added.

His comments come as polling suggests Democrats are favored to win the House and possibly the Senate in the upcoming election in November, with many candidates taking harder lines against the displacement of Palestinians and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023.

On Tuesday, Sanders also slammed the Tel Aviv regime for barring Arab-led parties from upcoming elections in the occupied territories.

“Israel’s election committee banned both major Arab parties four weeks before the election,” he stated. “If it wasn’t already clear, Netanyahu and his far-right allies” want to muffle the voices of the Palestinians, the senator wrote.

Legislative elections are scheduled to be held by the occupying Israeli regime on October 27, 2026, to elect all 120 members of the 26th Knesset.
