Death toll of Palestinian journalists rises to 263 as another reporter dies in strikes on Gaza

Israel has killed another Palestinian journalist in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll to 263 since the regime launched its all-out onslaught on the blockaded territory in early October 2023, local authorities say.

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip said in a statement that Muhammad Abdul Aziz al-Najjar was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike against the al-Mawasi area north of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The office condemned “Israel’s systematic assassination of Palestinian reporters in Gaza,” and called on human rights and media institutions to “condemn these systematic crimes against Gaza journalists.”

Local sources reported that a drone struck Najjar as Israeli military forces continued shelling and gunfire across Gaza despite a ceasefire agreement.

Najjar worked for the Gaza-based Qur’an radio station and was among the journalists who continued to perform their duties under conditions of the Israeli genocidal war, bombardment, and displacement.

His death comes amid a continuing pattern of targeting Palestinian journalists in Gaza, where media workers have paid a heavy price while covering events and documenting conditions on the ground.

US Senate blocks resolution seeking report on Israeli killing of nine Americans in West Bank

The US Senate has blocked a Democratic-led resolution that would have required the State Department to report on violence in the occupied West Bank, including the deaths of nine US citizens.

As Israel persists in prohibiting foreign journalists from accessing the coastal territory, Palestinian reporters continue to be the exclusive source of firsthand reporting from within the conflict zone.

The Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its deep concern over the continued assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli forces while carrying out their duties.

The federation emphasized that what is happening in Gaza constitutes a clear violation of international laws and norms, and comes in the context of Israeli violations of freedom of the press and media, and its policy of confiscating the truth, gagging, covering up its daily violations, and preventing them from reaching global public opinion.

At least eight Palestinians were killed and more than 15 wounded on Wednesday in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

According to witnesses and medical sources, six of the victims were killed in an Israeli drone attack on a passenger van in the Tal al-Hawa area in southwest Gaza City.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said its crews took 13 wounded people to al-Quds Hospital.

Earlier, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that an Israeli attack on a residential apartment near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City killed at least one woman.

Additionally, four Palestinians, including two children, were wounded when an Israeli drone hit a shelter for displaced people in southern Gaza.

Two other Palestinians were seriously wounded by Israeli forces southeast of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

Hamas: Israel’s attacks blatant ceasefire breach

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, in a statement, censured unrelenting Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip and said the attacks are in line with the regime’s genocide against the local Palestinian population.

It underlined that the latest deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza are proof that Israel has a habit of reneging on all its obligations under the ceasefire agreement.

“The ongoing assassinations, gunfire, bombardment and targeting of civilians represent an extremely dangerous development, which undermines the chances of implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The occupying Israeli regime and its fascist leaders bear full responsibility for potential serious repercussions,” the statement read.

Hamas called on mediator countries, guarantor states of the agreement, and the US government to fulfill their responsibilities to stop Israel’s crimes.

The Israeli military has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since October 7, 2023, dismissing international appeals for a ceasefire. The war has killed more than 74,000 people, predominantly women and children, and injured over 175,000 others.

Israeli strikes have also ravaged the region and caused significant food shortages.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2025 for Benjamin Netanyahu, the current prime minister, and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war on the besieged coastal territory.
