Israel continues Lebanon destruction, envoy expresses solidarity with Israeli ambassador

Israel has launched a new wave of attacks on southern Lebanon, as its military continues to bombard the region in violation of a framework agreement with the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement.

The Israeli military shelled several towns in southern Lebanon on Wednesday morning, including Baraachit, Beit Yahoun, as attacks on the region continued, Lebanese sources reported.

Meanwhile, the sources reported helicopter attacks by the Israeli military on the towns of Mefidoun and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah.

Separately, the Lebanese National News Agency correspondent in Tyre, southern Lebanon, reported that an Israeli Merkava tank stationed in the town of al-Bayyadah fired two shells toward al-Mansouri.

The Israeli military also continued its hostile actions in al-Mansouri. After blowing up most of the homes in the town, it detonated its wells and cut off the water network.

The Israeli regime launched a wide-scale attack on Lebanon on March 2, with parts of southern Lebanon remaining under Israeli occupation.

Despite the ratification of a US-facilitated framework agreement between the two sides on June 26, Israeli military strikes against Lebanon have continued unabated.

The agreement sets out a phased process for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, alongside the deployment of Lebanese armed forces in areas vacated by the Israeli military.

Yet Israel has continued its military aggression against Lebanon in violation of the agreement, carrying out attacks.

Lebanese authorities say Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,386 people, injured 12,407 others, and displaced more than one million people since early March.

Earlier this week, Lebanese Ambassador to Washington Nada Moawad reportedly contacted Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter to express her “solidarity” and condemn a West Bank resistance operation that injured Leiter’s son, who was serving as an Israeli reserve soldier.

He was severely wounded in a ramming operation northwest of occupied al-Quds and underwent hours of complex brain surgery.

The report was first published by Israel’s KAN and was also carried by Beirut Review, which cited Western diplomatic sources.

Lebanese outlet al-Mayadeen wrote, “Critics are questioning how a Lebanese diplomat could offer sympathy to an Israeli representative while Israel continues to occupy Lebanese territory and carry out attacks that have displaced residents and devastated southern communities.”

Beirut Review, for its part, also noted, “Condemning an operation that the occupation forces are subjected to in occupied land means that the Lebanese authority has turned against the entire system of human values and international laws that guarantee the right to resist occupation, in full adoption of Zionist ideas."

Moawad has held several rounds of direct talks with Leiter as part of negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv that began last year, which produced a framework agreement that allows Israel to maintain its occupation of southern Lebanon, continue attacks on civilian infrastructure and carry out airstrikes.

Hezbollah has categorically rejected the so-called agreement between Tel Aviv and Beirut.
