News Review: Israel settlement expansion
A senior UN official has condemned Israel’s continued expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank, warning that the policy threatens the viability of an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state.
Addressing the UN Security Council, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the West Asia Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov said Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory have no legal validity, describing the situation as morally, legally and politically unacceptable.
Alakbarov called for continued international efforts to support Palestinians in ending the unlawful Israeli occupation and achieving a solution in line with international law and UN resolutions.
