Flooded Bangkok street turns into floating market
Residents in Bangkok turned a flooded plaza in front of a shopping mall into a temporary floating market on Monday, as floodwaters continued to inundate parts of the Thai capital.
Sellers waded through floodwaters to sell fish, vegetables and other goods from floating platforms and foam boxes, while buyers waded or paddled between makeshift stalls for their essentials.
Bangkok is among 41 provinces across Thailand hit by floods since September 16 that killed at least eight people and affected more than 580,000 homes, the interior ministry said.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration declared the capital a disaster-affected area on Saturday (September 26) after nearly 300 mm (12 inches) of rain fell over 48 hours, leading to flooding on major roads that left some cars partly submerged.
