Israel’s Smotrich calls for doing in West Bank as ‘we did in Gaza’
Hawkish Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called on Israeli regime forces to “go to war” against Palestinians in the West Bank and do “as we did” in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking on a podcast for Ynet news outlet, Smotrich told the host that he has the "solutions" to the decades-long Palestinian conflict with the Zionist regime.
“I certainly have solutions” to the situation in the West Bank, he told the Israeli outlet.
Smotrich has frequently called for the expansion of the Israeli regime's settlements in the West Bank.
“I think we need to go to war in Judea and Samaria, to do there what we did in Gaza, to dismantle the Palestinian Authority,” he said, using the biblical name of the area used by Zionists to erase Palestinians’ name for the region.
Smotrich also called on the Israeli forces to "annex" southern Lebanon and the areas of Gaza still under the Zionist regime forces' occupation.
The far-right Israeli official has previously called for the illegal annexation of more than 80 percent of the West Bank.
The United Nations sees the Israeli settlements as a violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions because they are built on occupied Palestinian land.
The UN Security Council has banned the expansion of Israeli settlements in several resolutions.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of historical Palestine illegal and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
The Israeli occupation regime has rejected the rulings, remaining impudent to UN resolutions while increasing hostility toward Palestinians.
