Judiciary: 12 Iranian fishermen killed, 760 vessels damaged in US attacks on Hormozgan
A spokesman for Iran’s Judiciary says 12 fishermen have been killed and 760 fishing and commercial vessels have been damaged in US attacks on Hormozgan Province.
Ali Kazemi made the remarks during a visit to the Posht-e Shahr pier in the city of Bandar Abbas in the southern province of Hormozgan on Monday.
“During the aggressor enemy’s crimes, 12 fishermen from Hormozgan were martyred, and seven others were wounded,” he said.
The spokesman added that “420 fishing vessels, including 70 launches and 350 boats, and 340 commercial vessels sustained damage.”
Noting that one boat is all some fishermen own, he said the attacks targeted their sole means of livelihood.
“These fishermen are currently facing numerous problems that local and national officials are striving to help resolve,” Kazemi said.
He added that the Hormozgan judiciary has taken the necessary steps to register and pursue related complaints, and that required assessments have been completed.
The spokesman expressed hope that the proceedings would yield results soon, that the fishermen’s material and moral damages would be compensated, and that those responsible for this crime would be punished.
The US and Israel launched another round of aggression against Iran on February 28, some eight months after carrying out unprovoked attacks on the country.
Iran swiftly retaliated by launching barrages of missiles and drones at the Israeli-occupied territories, as well as US bases and interests across the region.
The United States has perpetrated numerous violations against Iranian territory since April 7, when US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire in the latest bout of American-Israeli aggression targeting the Islamic Republic.
The violations continued even after Washington and Tehran signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding in June, whose first clause clearly mandates cessation of aggression on all fronts.
