Barzegari’s silver lifts Iran to five medals at 2026 World Poomsae Championships
Iranian poomsae athlete Mahsa Barzegari claimed silver in the women’s Under-30 individual event on Saturday, taking Iran’s medal tally at the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships to three silver and two bronze medals.
Barzegari reached the final in the recognized poomsae category before finishing behind South Korea’s Jooyeong Lee.
Barzegari advanced to the final after a series of close contests. In the semifinal, she defeated Thailand’s Ratchadawan Tapaenthong 9.000-8.940. She then scored 9.110 in the final, while Lee recorded 9.220 to take the title.
The result added to Iran’s strong showing at the five-day championships, which are being held in Chuncheon from Sept. 16 to 20.

Iran had already secured two silver medals before Saturday. On Friday, Behdad Naghiee finished runner-up in the men’s Junior individual event, with Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Min-Yu taking gold.
On the opening day, Iran’s women’s Under-30 team of Barzegari, Dina Yaghoubi and Razieh Aghaei also won silver, finishing behind South Korea and ahead of the Philippines and Vietnam.
Iran also collected two bronze medals. Mahdi Jamali Fashi and Mahdiyeh Oghbaei placed third in the Under-50 pair event.
Meanwhile, Yasin Akbari and Hananeh Ahmadi Ebrahimi took bronze in the Freestyle Poomsae Pairs Over-17 category, marking Iran’s first medal in the freestyle category.
The Chuncheon championships bring together athletes competing across recognized and freestyle poomsae categories and are scheduled to conclude on Sunday. Iran entered the competition with 17 athletes, according to the Iranian account provided for the event.
