Iran, Pakistan FMs discuss regional developments, energy supplies
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar have discussed regional developments and issues of mutual interest in a phone call.
According to a statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides had a phone conversation on Saturday where Dar emphasized the importance of “uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe and expeditious passage of ships,” particularly given their impact on developing countries and global supply chains.
He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the “only viable means” of ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
Meanwhile, Ali Zeynivand, a spokesperson for Iran’s Interior Ministry, said international diplomatic efforts and mediation were continuing to resolve outstanding issues and restore the Islamabad agreement.
“Efforts and international diplomatic mediations to resolve issues and return to the Islamabad agreement are ongoing,” Zeynivand told reporters.
He stressed that Iran expects the other party to fulfill its commitments under the agreement.
Zeynivand described the Islamabad agreement as a formal decision of the Islamic Republic, saying it has been approved by the Supreme National Security Council and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
“Active diplomacy continues with the president’s participation in the Shanghai and BRICS meetings in India and Kyrgyzstan, as well as through intensive consultations,” he added.
Earlier in September, Araghchi spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief Munir. The two officials examined the latest developments and exchanged views on the intensification of tensions, growing insecurity, and the consequences for regional peace and stability.
They also stressed the need for vigilance and coordination among regional countries and the use of shared capacities to help establish lasting peace and security.
Pakistan has played a mediating role in efforts to halt the US-Israeli-imposed war on Iran, including through the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
