Appeal filed for Press TV reporter Naqaa Hamed as Israel prolongs her unlawful detention
Attorney Khaled Mahajneh, the lawyer representing detained Press TV journalist Naqaa Hamed, has filed an appeal before the Ofer Military Court after she was brought before the Salem military court over falsified allegations linked to her journalistic work.
Hamed appeared before the Salem military court on Thursday and was charged with alleged incitement over her coverage of events in the village of Qusra.
Mahajneh refuted the allegations and affirmed that Hamed was carrying out her professional journalistic work.
The court decided to extend her detention for six days. The Israeli regime authorities had requested a 12-day extension.
Mahajneh subsequently filed an appeal before the Ofer Military Court. A new hearing has been scheduled for next Tuesday to consider the appeal.
Hamed, 38, was abducted by Israeli occupation forces on September 14 at a checkpoint near Tuqu’ in Bethlehem.
She was separated from her camera crew and transferred to an undisclosed facility, where she was subjected to harsh interrogation regarding her journalistic work.
A Palestinian-American citizen and mother of three, Hamed has more than 15 years of experience covering political and humanitarian crises.
Since joining Press TV in 2024, she has provided field-based coverage of Israeli settler-colonialism and the steadfastness of Palestinians.
Her detention follows previous incidents in which she was targeted while reporting. In December 2025 and August 2026, Israeli occupation forces deliberately injured her with rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas while she was clearly marked as media in the Qalandia refugee camp.
The physical targeting was preceded by a coordinated smear campaign on social media that falsely branded her an “agent of propaganda.”
Despite her dual American citizenship, Hamed’s family has received no response from the US Embassy in occupied Al-Quds regarding her detention.
Meanwhile, Israeli media and propaganda outlets have amplified unsubstantiated “espionage” claims against her, seeking to legitimize the crackdown on her reporting from the ground.
International press freedom organizations have continued to demand her immediate and unconditional release, condemning efforts to obstruct the flow of information about events in the occupied West Bank.
