Yemen warns Saudi airstrikes will not go unanswered
Yemen’s armed forces spokesman Yahya Saree has warned that Saudi airstrikes on various parts of Yemen will not go unanswered, saying Saudi warplanes carried out 129 attacks across several Yemeni provinces over the past 48 hours.
Saree said in a statement on Saturday that the strikes targeted the provinces of Taiz, Marib, Hudaydah, al-Jawf, Saada, Amran and Hajjah.
He added that the attacks were carried out by Saudi F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets launched from air bases in Khamis Mushait and Taif.
“The Saudi attacks against the Yemeni people will not go unanswered or unpunished,” Saree said.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Ministry of Transport in the Sana’a-based National Salvation Government said 73 ships passed through the Bab al-Mandab Strait over the past two days, stressing that there is no threat to international navigation in the strategic waterway.
A ministry source said 36 ships passed through the strait on September 10 and another 37 on September 11.
The source said the figures refute claims that international shipping faces danger in Bab al-Mandab, noting that 73 vessels had passed through the strait in just two days.
The source also said Yemen’s restrictions on Saudi shipping had not affected the passage of international vessels through Bab al-Mandab.
Yemeni armed forces have asserted control over Perim Island, also known as Mayyun Island in Arabic, completing their control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital maritime passage connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The takeover of Perim Island, situated at the heart of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and acting as a crucial observation point, has placed the entire waterway under the authority of forces operating from Sana’a.
Yemeni armed forces successfully seized the western coastal city of Mokha on Thursday, forcing Saudi-backed mercenaries to retreat southward towards the city of Dhubab.
The advance was made after a succession of military victories by Yemeni armed forces along the western coastline, during which they seized key cities and ports, such as Mokha and Dhubab, prior to their arrival at Perim Island.
Recent developments take place against a backdrop of increasing tensions along Yemen's western coastline, where Yemeni forces and Saudi-supported mercenaries have been involved in clashes over vital coastal regions and strategic sites.
The latest advances have shifted the balance of power on the western front, prompting Saudi Arabia to conduct airstrikes against Yemeni positions and infrastructure.
