Ansarullah rejects Trump’s claim Yemeni group asked US not to intervene
Yemen's ruling Ansarullah has unequivocally dismissed US President Donald Trump’s claim that the resistance group has asked Washington not to intervene in the Arab Peninsula country’s conflict.
Hazem al-Assad, a member of Ansarullah’s political bureau, refuted the allegation as “baseless and spurious,” stressing that no official from the Sana’a government has contacted the White House.
“As usual with his habit of idle talking and telling clownish lies, the criminal Trump weaves unsubstantiated narratives. But reality sums him up with the old proverb: ‘The hand you cannot break — kiss it, and pray for it to break,’” Assad wrote in a post published on the social media platform X on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Trump claimed that Ansarullah officials had called Washington, asking it not to intervene in the conflict against the Saudi-backed and Aden-based puppet regime.
“The Houthis called us, and they don't want to fight with us,” Trump told reporters on a visit to the Irish capital city of Dublin. “They don't want us to go after them.”
He added that “everything's gonna work out fine and dandy” in the region.
According to the American news website Axios, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called Trump twice on Thursday to request US strikes on Ansarullah resistance forces, but the US president declined.
The development comes as the Yemeni armed forces have asserted control over Perim Island, also known as Mayyun Island in Arabic, completing their control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital maritime passage connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The takeover of Perim Island, situated at the heart of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and acting as a crucial observation point, has placed the entire waterway under the authority of forces operating from Sana’a.
Recent developments take place against a backdrop of increasing tensions along Yemen's western coastline, where Yemeni forces and Saudi-supported mercenaries have been involved in clashes over vital coastal regions and strategic sites.
The latest advances have shifted the balance of power on the western front, prompting Saudi Arabia to conduct airstrikes against Yemeni positions and infrastructure.
