Iran strongly condemns Israeli aggression against Lebanon, urges action

Iran has strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing airstrikes across southern Lebanon, particularly attacks on residential areas that have killed and injured dozens of civilians, while praising the Lebanese people for their steadfastness in the face of Israeli occupation and aggression.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced the intensification of Israel’s military offensive against Lebanon, describing the latest attacks as part of its relentless aggression against the country.

The ministry also praised the resilience of the Lebanese people in confronting the hegemony and occupation of the “child-killing” Israeli regime.

It reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s full support for Lebanon as the country works to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Foreign Ministry further pointed to the overt US backing for Israel’s attacks and occupation of several locations in southern Lebanon, saying Washington has thereby become a primary accomplice in Israel’s atrocities and must be held accountable.

The statement also condemned the UN Security Council’s failure to act in the face of Israel’s continued aggression, warning that its inaction poses a serious threat to regional and global peace and security.

It said the failure to respond to Israel’s actions has not only undermined the credibility and standing of the United Nations but also emboldened the Zionist regime to commit further crimes and expand its war-mongering.

“The United Nations, its secretary-general [António Guterres] as well as all member states are obligated to take the necessary measures to stop the vile Israeli attacks and war crimes,” it noted.

The Foreign Ministry also called on Muslim and regional nations to fulfill their responsibility to support Lebanon in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression, urging the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to use all available capacities to halt Israeli crimes and hold those responsible to account.

Israeli forces carried out a series of air and artillery attacks across several areas of southern Lebanon early on Wednesday.

Nabih Berri says the Zionist regime, at all political and military levels, had turned southern Lebanon into a tool for its own electoral competition.

According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA), Israeli aircraft carried out early-morning strikes on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa toward Kfar Tebnit, while sporadic artillery fire targeted Doha Kfar Rouman.

In the Tyre district, an Israeli drone released explosive canisters over the town of Mansouri while artillery shelling targeted the area.

Israeli forces also unleashed heavy machine-gun fire on the town of Majdal Zoun at dawn.

Separately, Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of Qabrikha in the Marjayoun district.

The attacks come amid persistent Israeli military offensives in southern Lebanon, where tensions have escalated since March 2.

Since then, Israel has carried out extensive airstrikes and ground incursions across southern Lebanon, causing casualties and widespread destruction, particularly in residential areas and civilian infrastructure.

Despite months of negotiations, Israel has pressed ahead with its military offensive against Lebanon, killing at least 4,362 people and wounding more than 12,378 others, while displacing more than 1 million people, according to Lebanese authorities.

Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, including areas it has usurped for decades as well as territories seized during the 2023–2024 war. Its forces have also advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the current offensive.
