Iran’s Rahimi wins gold at 2026 World Archery Para Series in India
Iranian para archer Somayeh Rahimi won the women’s individual recurve gold medal at the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad, India.
Rahimi defeated China’s Liang Qiurong 6-2 in the gold-medal match on Wednesday to claim the title at the third stage of the newly launched Hyundai World Archery Para Series.
The competition is being held at the Sabarmati Riverfront from September 5-9, with 109 para archers from 19 countries competing across recurve, compound, W1 and visually impaired categories.
Ahmedabad is hosting a World Archery Para Series event for the first time.
Rahimi entered the final after overcoming India’s Bhawna in a semifinal decided by a shoot-off. Liang, meanwhile, defeated India’s Rajshri Dhanraj Rathod 6-4 to secure her place in the gold-medal match.
The Iranian had also produced a strong performance in qualifying, finishing second with 602 points over the 72-arrow, 70-meter round.
The gold was Rahimi Ghahderijani’s first individual World Para Series title and added to Iran’s medal haul in Ahmedabad.
She also teamed up with Mohadeseh Babahabib in the women’s recurve doubles event. The Iranian pair defeated Indonesia 6-2 on Tuesday to secure the bronze medal.
The Ahmedabad event is the third stage of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series, following competitions in Bangkok and Czechia.
The circuit was launched this year to provide more high-level competition and ranking opportunities for para archers.
The tournament also serves as important preparation for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, which are scheduled to take place in Japan later this year.
