South Koreans protest against sending troops to Strait of Hormuz
A protest has been held in the South Korean capital against the army’s possible deployment to the Strait of Hormuz.
South Korean university students and other academics were in attendance. The rally was held after the government said on Friday that it's considering "contributions" to US military efforts along the Strait of Hormuz.
The announcement followed months of Washington’s pressure on Seoul to join the war on Iran. South Korea is already suffering an economic crisis due to the global impacts of the war on Iran, as it relies on Persian Gulf supplies via the Hormuz Strait for crude imports.
The Islamic Republic has warned the South Korean government of serious consequences in case of joining the US in its war on Iran.
