Enemy miscalculated Iran’s ability to change war equation: Top commander
A senior Iranian military commander says the enemy did not anticipate that Iran would be able to change the course of the war and expand the battlefield to the entire region.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari made the remarks on Monday, saying the Strait of Hormuz is one of the region’s key strategic issues with the capacity to significantly influence regional and global equations.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, by using its strategic capacities, succeeded in having a significant impact on the world’s economic equations.”
The top commander said the enemy had relied heavily on a range of scenarios and calculations before it entered the confrontation with the Islamic Republic.
The enemy sought to create unrest, insecurity and instability in Iran by using hybrid warfare and its affiliated elements inside the country, he said.
Referring to the enemy’s miscalculation as an important factor in the recent confrontation, Heidari said Iran’s adversaries have repeatedly failed to properly assess the capabilities, determination and potential of the Iranian nation.
The commander underscored the importance of reinforcing internal synergy and said Iran’s strength and success stem from coherence among the armed forces and the nation, who stood together and thwarted the enemy’s efforts to achieve its objectives.
Iran has recently announced a fundamental shift in its defense doctrine, warning that future responses to US aggression will be asymmetric and multi-layered.
The shift in Iran's defense strategy comes in the wake of a series of US airstrikes this week that targeted civilian areas and non-military infrastructure across several Iranian provinces, including Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Kerman.
The most horrific incident occurred in the village of Kouhestak in Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, where a US missile struck a wedding celebration.
The massacre martyred and wounded more than 70 people, the vast majority of whom were women and children.
