US has become too unpredictable to be taken seriously: Analyst
The interview contends that the United States, as a nuclear-armed power, has become too driven by financial interests and elite power to be regarded as a responsible or predictable international actor, arguing that the dominance of financial capitalism has made money the overriding priority in Western societies and enabled powerful financial interests to exert disproportionate influence over political and social institutions.
Geopolitical commentator Tony Gosling contends that this influence extends across democratic institutions, including Congress, the Senate, the courts and the media, as well as universities, television networks and political parties.
He notes that when these institutions challenge the interests of financial elites, wealth and influence can be used to control or neutralize them, fostering an environment in which powerful actors believe they can act with few meaningful constraints.
Applied to Iran, the commentator frames US policy as another example of a system driven by elite interests rather than responsible statecraft. He suggests that Washington’s actions toward Tehran reflect not only America’s pursuit of money and power but also a willingness to advance the agenda of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The upshot, in his view, is a reinforcing perception that the United States can no longer be treated as a predictable or responsible actor on the world stage.
