China, Iran vow to expand strategic cooperation across all fields

Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei has reaffirmed Iran’s “determination” to expand relations with China, stressing that stronger legal and judicial cooperation can serve as a pillar of broader strategic ties between the two countries.

Ejei made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with Zhang Jun, president of China’s Supreme People’s Court and the country’s highest judicial official, on the sidelines of the BRICS judicial leaders’ meeting in New Delhi, India.

“China and Iran have extensive and strong relations, and we are determined to expand our ties with China,” Ejei said, calling for closer exchanges of legal and judicial expertise and stressing the importance of fully implementing bilateral memoranda of understanding.

He also highlighted technological cooperation, particularly the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in judicial affairs, saying China’s scientific and technological capabilities, combined with Iran’s domestic capacities, could open new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

Ejei further expressed hope that Iran would soon host a summit of the heads of the judiciaries of Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.

The meeting had been scheduled to take place in Iran last year but was not held due to the “unjust aggression” by the United States and Israel against Iran.

For his part, Zhang Jun welcomed the opportunity to meet Ejei again, recalling their talks in China last April as “deep and constructive.”

“Despite all the regional and international ups and downs, China and Iran have always maintained healthy and stable relations, always helped and cooperated with each other,” Zhang said, expressing hope that the two countries could further strengthen their strategic cooperation.

Zhang said China’s judiciary is interested in deepening cooperation with its Iranian counterpart, particularly in judicial governance, artificial intelligence and digital technologies.

He also praised the resilience of the Iranian people during recent wars and expressed hope that relations between China and Iran would expand across all fields.

Ejei’s remarks came during his visit to India for the BRICS judicial leaders’ meetings. Iran joined BRICS in recent years alongside other new members, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, as the grouping seeks to strengthen cooperation among emerging and developing economies and increase their influence in global affairs.

Against this broader geopolitical backdrop, Ejei said the world is moving toward a “new world order” in which China is playing an important role.

He also said Iran has come under illegal US attacks this year but maintained that the strong presence and support of the Iranian people has demonstrated the country’s strategic stability and resilience.

In a separate meeting in New Delhi with Islamic scholars and leaders of different religious communities, Ejei called on religious leaders and influential figures around the world to work together to promote global peace, justice and prosperity.

“Let us work together for global peace,” he said, warning that failure to confront aggression and war crimes could embolden perpetrators to launch further attacks.

Referring to the Israeli and US attacks on Iran, Ejei pointed to the February 28 strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, in southern Hormozgan Province, saying the attack killed dozens of children, teachers and other civilians.

He described it as one example of what he called widespread crimes during the 40-day US-Israeli aggression, saying that dozens of schools, hospitals, cultural centers and national and religious infrastructure were also targeted.

Ejei also criticized the international community’s response to the war in Gaza, saying women and children have been killed and large numbers of people forced to flee their homes.

“If international organizations and free people around the world had stood against these crimes, the aggressors would not have allowed themselves to attack another country today and take pride in their crimes,” he said.

The Iranian judiciary chief called for collective efforts to establish peace and improve living conditions worldwide, saying Iran wants “peace and prosperity for all humanity” in a world free of discrimination, exploitation and colonialism.
