The US policies toward South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have thrown faith in the Washington–Seoul alliance out the window. Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw American troops, implemented massive tariffs, and demanded South Korea provide forces to join Washington's doomed war on Iran.
These policy reversals worry South Koreans, with more now openly advocating the country obtain its own nuclear weapons in light of Trump's recent outreach toward DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.
