Attack on Sirik wedding proves US in moral decline: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman
The United States is in moral decline, a fact exposed by its recent deadly attack on a wedding ceremony in southern Iran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says.
At least five people were killed and 68 others wounded after shrapnel from one of the Tuesday strikes hit a residential building hosting a wedding reception in the city of Kouhestak in Sirik County, Hormozgan Province.
In a message on social media platform X on Wednesday, Esmaeil Baqaei said, “The truth about America’s illegal war against Iran was laid bare last night in Sirik, where a wedding ceremony was bombed as part of the United States’ desperate attempt to conceal its defeat.”
“The reality is the crimes committed by the United States, not AI-generated videos that falsely portray American officials as ethical, victorious heroes.”
Quoting the American author Tim O’Brien’s book “The Things They Carried,” the spokesman said, “A true war story is never moral… If a story seems moral, don’t believe it.”
In another post on X, Baqaei grilled Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesman, for denying the “brutal war crime” in Sirik and claiming that the US does not target civilians.
“Apparently, he has forgotten his own military record: Kakarak in 2002, Mukaradeeb in 2004, and Deh Bala and Wech Baghtu in 2008 - documented US attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq that resulted in the deaths of civilians, including women and children.”
The Iranian diplomat also referred to “Homeland”, an American-produced television series, which portrayed in its fourth season a US drone strike on a wedding in Pakistan, “an attack that killed around 40 civilians.”
“The reality is so horrifying that even American propaganda has never dared make the claim Hawkins is making today.”
Shortly following the Tuesday aggression, Iran’s Armed Forces launched a series of decisive retaliatory operations featuring missile and drone strikes targeting regional American bases and interests in the region.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that the Sirik attack revived poignant memories of the US brutality against civilian targets during the imposed war of February 28-April 7.
The statement cited a deadly strike of historical proportions against a school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan Province and an attack using Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM) on a sports complex in the city of Lamerd in Fars, another southern Iranian province.
