Shrapnel from US strike hits wedding reception in southern Iran, martyring five, including a child

At least five people have been martyred and 68 others wounded after shrapnel from a United States’ attack hits a residential building holding a wedding reception in a city in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan.

The casualties occurred in the city of Kouhestak in the province’s Sirik County, which was targeted during the attack.

Hormozgan’s Red Crescent Society described the aggression as “a US missile strike that sent shrapnel into a residential home in Kouhestak, where a wedding celebration was taking place.”

Head of Public Relations and Information Center at Iran’s Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour confirmed the casualties, citing sources at Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. “A child is among those killed,” he wrote in a post on X.

Earlier reports had put the death toll from the aggression at two.

In a statement, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) lamented that the attack had revived poignant memories of the brutality that was staged against civilian targets during the last round of American-Israeli aggression against Iran that took place from February 28 until April 7.

It cited enemy attacks against a school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan Province and a sports complex in the city of Lamerd in Fars, another southern Iranian province, during which hundreds of innocent civilians were martyred.

More civilian targets come under attack

Elsewhere in Sirik, the US military attacked a fishing pier and a port authority tower.

An American attack also targeted a fishmeal factory on Hormozgan’s Qeshm Island

Shortly following the latest aggression, Iran’s Armed Forces began staging a series of combined retaliatory operations featuring missile and drone strikes targeting regional American bases and interests.

The reprisal has so far featured downing of the 50th advanced MQ-9 drone belonging to the American aggressor and “a heavy ballistic-missile strike against the US Marine barracks known as Camp Titiin in Jordan, located on the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba,” the Corps said.

Earlier attacks had also hit Chabahar and Konarak Counties in Sistan and Baluchestan, another southern Iranian province, and the Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Iranian servicemen to stage a reprisal against US forces stationed in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
