US underestimated Iran’s strength and lost the war: Human rights activist

Human rights activist Firas al-Najim says the US government underestimated Iran when it started the war, lost the war, and will fail in its efforts against the Iranian nation.

He stressed that Iran’s political and military system has been built around a defensive strategy since its establishment, combined with a doctrine that emphasizes resistance, perseverance and a willingness to make sacrifices for its principles.

Al-Najim also linked Iran’s approach to its Islamic and Shiite foundations, particularly the legacy of Imam Hussein and the Battle of Karbala, which he said has shaped the country’s emphasis on standing against overwhelming odds and defending its principles regardless of the cost.

According to the analyst, this ideological framework was incorporated into the foundations of the Islamic Republic by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and subsequently continued under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He argued that Iran’s broader objective is to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, protect the country and its people, and maintain its religious and ideological identity.

The analyst described these goals as central to Iran’s continued resistance against "US pressure and colonial projects in the region."
