Iranian cardiologist wins gold medal at Swiss international invention competition
An Iranian professor of cardiology, echocardiography and cardio-oncology has won a gold medal at an international invention competition in Geneva, Switzerland, for her innovative method of enhancing transesophageal echocardiography images.
Dr. Azin Alizadeh Asl won the award in recognition of her pioneering technique in improving the clarity of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) images, a development expected to increase the accuracy of diagnosing heart diseases and improve patient treatment outcomes, Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education announced on Monday.
The ministry said the invention is a significant international scientific achievement in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
Alizadeh Asl is a cardiovascular specialist and professor at Rajaei Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran. She is also the founder of Iran’s cardio-oncology subspecialty fellowship program and currently heads the Iranian Cardio-Oncology Association.
She has previously introduced a number of innovations in cardiovascular medicine, including the development of Holter echocardiography and research on cardiac toxicity management. She is also credited with identifying left ventricular dyssynchrony as an early indicator of cardiotoxicity.
The Iranian physician is the author of around 450 scientific papers and 30 specialized books. Her reference book Practical Cardiology previously earned the international Doody award.
She is a member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Elites Foundation.
