IRGC chief commander congratulates Iran’s U17 volleyball champions on world title
The chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has congratulated Iran’s youth national volleyball team for winning the 2026 FIVB Boys’ U17 World Championship, crediting the athletes with a “heroic performance.”
In a message addressed to the members of the national youth volleyball team on Saturday, Major General Ahmad Vahidi praised their performance and said it reflected the determination of the Iranian nation.
“Congratulations to you for your heroic performance, through which you demonstrated on the world stage the iron will and determination of a proud nation. With your spirit, dedication, and tireless efforts, you once again demonstrated the meaning of ‘we can’ in the midst of the enemy’s intense psychological warfare,” the commander wrote.
He also praised those who contributed to the team’s achievement as “committed and selfless individuals, who helped make this inspiring achievement possible.”
Vahidi, meanwhile, noted how the joy brought to the Iranian nation over the triumph had coincided with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Earlier in the day, Iran secured the championship by defeating France 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, and 25-12 in the final.
The victory gave Iran its first world title at the under-17 level and completed a perfect seven-match campaign at the second edition of the FIVB Boys’ U17 World Championship.
Iran had entered the knockout phase as the winner of Pool E after winning all three of its preliminary-round matches.
The tournament subsequently moved to a 16-team knockout stage, where Iran continued its winning run.
Iran defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the round of 16 before overcoming Pakistan 3-2 in the quarterfinals. The Iranian side then defeated Argentina 3-0 in the semifinals to book its place in the final against France.
