Israeli forces carry out explosions, drone strikes in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire
Israeli forces have intensified their military activity in southern Lebanon, carrying out fresh attacks in several towns despite ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the regime’s aggression.
The attacks took place on Saturday morning, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), which said there were no immediate casualties.
NNA reported that Israeli forces carried out two explosions near Aita al-Jabal, while Israeli drones struck Nabatieh al-Fawqa at around 8:55 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., respectively.
Israeli forces also set fire to homes in the southern Lebanese town of Beit Yahoun, according to the agency, adding to the latest series of attacks in the area.
A US-brokered framework agreement signed in June called for a cessation of all hostilities and Israel’s gradual withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
The framework agreement imposes certain obligations on Lebanon, such as the disarmament of the resistance group Hezbollah and refraining from international legal action against Israel.
Israeli forces, however, have continued their attacks and expanded their presence in southern Lebanon, while Washington has pressured the Lebanese government to disarm the resistance.
Namely, in a series of attacks on August 15, the Israeli forces killed at least eleven people, including three children and two women, and injured several others.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, 4,346 people have been killed and more than 12,000 injured since the Israeli aggression began on March 2.
Furthermore, 1.5 million Lebanese have been displaced, with most of them remaining outside registered shelters amid the continuing Israeli military operations across southern Lebanon.
