Qalibaf: Iran to defeat enemy in all-out economic war

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says Iran is engaged in an all-out economic war, expressing confidence that the country will defeat the enemies by relying on its people, private-sector economic actors and all state institutions.

In a message marking Government Week on Thursday, Qalibaf said the occasion is a reminder of the government’s commitment to serving a nation that has stood firm in the most difficult circumstances and defended the ideals of the Islamic Revolution and Iran’s independence.

He said the government must, under the current critical circumstances, prioritize protecting the country, people’s livelihoods, purchasing power, youth employment and economic security, while seeking to ease the burdens on the public.

“While the war has had consequences for the country’s economy and the enemy has mobilized all its capabilities to pressure the Iranian people, executive officials have made effective efforts to run the country and are working hard to address existing weaknesses,” Qalibaf said.

The United States has unveiled a new wave of illegal sanctions against Iran under the so-called “Operation Economic Outcast,” threatening secondary penalties against any country or entity maintaining trade ties with Tehran in a failed attempt to achieve through economic coercion what its military aggression could not.

The United States has unveiled a new wave of illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran under the so-called “Operation Economic Outcast.”

The parliament speaker stressed that following Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei’s repeated calls for unity, national cohesion and trust in officials is the most important source of support for the country’s authorities in overcoming challenges and advancing Iran’s interests.

Qalibaf said Iran is facing an all-out economic war, adding the government and executive bodies will defeat the enemy on this front as well by drawing on the capabilities of the people, private-sector economic actors and all branches of the state.

“God willing, we will soon witness the discrediting of the enemy’s psychological operations in this regard,” he noted.

The parliament speaker said government employees, executive managers, provincial and local officials, economic policymakers and all those serving the public must recognize that their offices constitute “a frontline” under conditions of economic warfare, adding that providing proper, swift and honest services to the people is part of national defense.

He added that the parliament “also considers itself alongside the government and at the service of the people. It will stand by the government with its full legislative and supervisory capacity to remove obstacles, amend laws and pursue the people’s demands.”

President Pezeshkian has firmly rejected any notion of capitulation, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully determined to annul the United States’ economic warfare.

Meanwhile, Hossein Taeb, head of Iran’s Basij Organization, said the enemy, after failing to achieve its objectives on the military front, is pursuing economic, security and cognitive warfare in an attempt to disrupt production, trade and businesses in the country.

“Today, launchers are not merely military tools; production, markets and trade are also considered launchers in confronting the enemy,” Taeb said, adding that every producer, shopkeeper and economic activist could play a role on this front.
