Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi has joined Al Wasl from Olympiacos, ending his spell in Greece and moving to the UAE Pro League for the 2026-27 season.
Al Wasl confirmed the signing on Saturday, completing Taremi’s move to Dubai after the 34-year-old forward arrived in the UAE earlier this week.
Taremi will work under Portuguese coach Rui Vitória, who was appointed Al Wasl head coach in February 2026. Vitória previously managed Benfica and Al-Nassr, as well as the Egypt national team and Panathinaikos.

The transfer gives Taremi a new challenge after one season with Olympiacos. He scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Greek club in 2025-26, including a goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The move to Al Wasl represents the latest stage of a career that has taken Taremi through Iran, Portugal, Qatar, Italy and Greece. He previously played for Persepolis in Iran, Rio Ave and Porto in Portugal, Al-Gharafa in Qatar, and Inter Milan in Italy.
Al Wasl are one of the established clubs in the UAE Pro League. They won the league title in 2023-24 — their eighth UAE league championship and first in the professional era — before finishing fourth in 2024-25 and third in 2025-26.
The Dubai club will also compete in the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Elite, which has been expanded to 32 teams for the new season.

Taremi’s arrival also adds another prominent Iranian international to the UAE league. Sardar Azmoun and Saeid Ezatolahi are at Shabab Al Ahli, while Mehdi Ghayedi plays for Al Nasr.
There had been speculation that Taremi could join Shabab Al Ahli and link up with Azmoun, but Al Wasl ultimately secured the experienced forward.
Taremi remains one of Iran’s leading attacking players and has scored more than 50 goals for the national team.
