Wealthy northern Europe sends asylum seekers back to entry states

A number of Northern European countries have started to transfer asylum seekers back to Italy, as indicated by the new EU asylum rules that came into effect in June.

A recent diplomatic spat between Italy and Spain has exposed a deeper migration rift in the EU, as domestic politics and rising far-right rivals harden most members of the bloc's positions.
