Iran’s army chief urges enhanced coordination in armed forces for stronger deterrence

Iran’s Army chief Major General Amir Hatami.

Iran’s Army chief Major General Amir Hatami has congratulated newly appointed senior military commanders, expressing hope that closer coordination between the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) can further strengthen Iran’s defense capabilities, deterrence and long-term security.

Hatami made the remarks in separate messages on Tuesday, congratulating six senior commanders recently appointed to key positions in Iran’s armed forces by the country’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

The appointments include Major General Ali Abdollahi and Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari as chief and deputy chief of staff of the Armed Forces, respectively, as well as Major General Ahmad Vahidi as IRGC commander-in-chief, Major General Mostafa Izadi as the IRGC’s deputy commander-in-chief, Rear Admiral Ali Ozamaei as commander of the IRGC Navy and Hojatoleslam Hossein Taeb as head of the Basij Organization.

In his message to Abdollahi and Heydari, Hatami described their appointments as a significant decision made at a “sensitive and decisive” juncture, saying it reflected the confidence placed in their capabilities and experience to assume senior responsibilities in the armed forces.

He said the appointments were aimed at safeguarding Iran’s independence, security and territorial integrity, wishing the two commanders success in carrying out their duties under the guidance of the country’s Leader.

In a separate message to the newly appointed IRGC commanders, Hatami said their experience, commitment, managerial and command capabilities, and knowledge of Iran’s defense, security and strategic affairs could help further strengthen unity and coordination within the armed forces.

He expressed hope that the country’s military institutions would draw on their extensive experience and capabilities and work together more closely to enhance Iran’s deterrence.

“Hopefully, by relying on the valuable experience and exceptional capabilities of the armed forces, and through greater coordination and synergy between the Army and the IRGC, we will witness further consolidation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense strength, deterrence and sustainable security,” Hatami said.
