Iranian teenager Mohammad Javad Beiranvand claimed nine gold medals and broke three world youth records at the 2026 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Competing in the men’s 75kg category, 16-year-old Beiranvand swept the snatch, clean and jerk and total classifications for the youth, junior and Central Asian competitions, earning nine gold medals overall.
The Iranian began his record-breaking performance in the snatch, successfully lifting 145 kilograms to set a new youth world record.
He then produced an 180kg clean and jerk, breaking the youth world record in the lift and taking his combined total to 325kg.
That total also established a new youth world record, completing his sweep of the three world marks in Tashkent.
Beiranvand’s nine-gold haul came from the championship’s overlapping classifications. His three winning performances in each discipline counted toward the youth, junior and Central Asian standings, giving him three golds in the snatch, three in the clean and jerk and three in the total.
Beiranvand’s haul came after Iran had already opened its medal account in Tashkent. Reza Zamani claimed the country’s first gold of the championships in the youth 70kg category, while teammate Mehrab Davaseri won two silver medals in the junior 70kg class. Zamani also took a bronze.
Iranian women also contributed to the medal tally. Hajar Moeini Sadeh won a silver and two bronze medals in the youth 61kg category, while Yalda Sharifi Sadeh and Maryam Keshtkar helped Iran collect further medals in the same weight class. The Iranian women finished the 61kg competition with one silver and six bronze medals across the Asian and Central Asian classifications.
The 2026 Asian Youth & Junior Championships have brought together more than 300 weightlifters from 29 countries in Tashkent, with athletes competing in both youth and junior categories.
