Israeli army conducts artillery strikes, ground incursion, house burnings in southern Lebanon
The Israeli military has carried out artillery strikes, a ground incursion, and house burnings in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on April 16.
According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA), Israeli forces discharged machine gun fire towards Wadi al-Salouqi in the Nabatieh governorate and bombarded the town of Mansouri in southern Lebanon overnight.
Israeli forces also conducted two explosions in the Mansouri region.
They carried out a major explosion in the Kfar Tebnit area of Nabatieh, while the surrounding areas of Nabatieh al-Fawqa were subjected to intermittent artillery shelling from Israeli positions.
Israeli forces set fire to multiple houses in Khiam while offensives persisted inside the town.
NNA reported that Israeli forces have made advances into the western outskirts of Mays al-Jabal, accompanied by artillery fire aimed at a residential structure.
Israeli drones also flew at low altitude over the Zahrani area. There were no reports of casualties or property damage.
The assaults came just days following the conclusion of the seventh round of Lebanese-Israeli discussions, which wrapped up on Thursday in Rome with the sponsorship of the United States. The talks primarily addressed issues concerning the implementation of a so-called framework agreement established on June 26.
During a cabinet session on Friday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun asserted that Lebanon had achieved “positive progress” in the discussions held in Rome regarding border issues and detainees.
Despite ongoing negotiations, Israel continues its acts of aggression in Lebanon, which commenced on March 2, resulting in the deaths of 4,335 individuals and injuries to 12,277, while displacing over 1 million people, as reported by Lebanese authorities.
Israel maintains its occupation of regions in southern Lebanon, with some areas being held for decades and others since the war of 2023-2024, as its military has penetrated over 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) into Lebanese land during the current onslaught.
