Iran’s vice president urges upgrading cybersecurity, passive defense amid enemy plots
Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has underlined the need for the Islamic Republic to improve its position in the fields of cybersecurity and passive defense to foil the enemy’s conspiracies.
Speaking during a meeting of the Science and Technology Development Headquarters in Tehran on Monday, Aref said Iran, under the Development Vision Plan defined by the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, must achieve a leading position in the region in advanced technologies and become an influential player globally.
“Strengthening cybersecurity is a necessary strategy, because the enemy, even after its recent defeats against the Iranian people, will not stop plotting and will wait for an opportunity to deal a blow to our country.”
“Therefore, while maintaining full readiness, we must closely monitor the adversaries’ conspiracies and pay greater attention to passive defense as well.”
The United States and Israel waged their first war on Iran in June 2025. It lasted 12 days. Their second aggression began on February 28 and came to a halt in early April after 40 days.
In both wars, Iran’s brave resistance and decisive retaliatory operations forced the enemies to accept a ceasefire.
Tehran and Washington signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on June 17, but the US effectively violated the deal by striking Iran.
In response, the Iranian armed forces have conducted devastating attacks against strategic American targets across West Asia.
Additionally in his remarks, the vice president said cooperation through regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS intergovernmental organization could help strengthen cybersecurity.
He also noted that regional countries have made significant efforts in this area and that the Islamic Republic could benefit from their experience.
Aref underscored the pivotal role of human resources in enhancing the country’s cybersecurity posture, emphasizing that the needs and demands of specialized cybersecurity personnel must be addressed.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, a proposal was presented for a program titled “Additional and Effective Measures to Enhance Cybersecurity,” focusing on bringing about effective changes to the system of responsibility and accountability and developing key technical support capabilities.
A report was also presented on the measures taken to complete the “Cybersecurity Campus” as a platform for developing strategic technologies and technological capabilities in the field of cybersecurity.
