US must submit to new order in Persian Gulf: Iran deputy Parliament speaker

Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad

Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad has said that the United States must accept the arrangements established by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, which have resulted in a new political and military order in the Persian Gulf.

Addressing the open session of the Iranian Parliament on Monday, Nikzad said that the US and the Israeli regime have realized, some six months after launching an aggression against Iran, that they cannot force open the Strait of Hormuz through military means.

“…today the American-Zionist enemy has practically realized, through the firm blow of the (Iranian) armed forces, that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has no military solution and that it must submit to the new order of the region,” he said.

The Iranian lawmaker said that Iran has done its utmost over the past months to clarify the “battlefield realities” for the US through dialogue, particularly the fact that Hormuz is not going to return to its pre-war conditions.

Iran began restricting transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway in the Persian Gulf responsible for a fifth of global oil supply, in early March, days after the start of the joint US-Israeli aggression.

Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June that allowed Iran to manage the strait and gradually return transit to normal levels, in return for the US lifting its sanctions and blockade on the country.

However, Iran reinstated restrictions in Hormuz after the US violated the terms of the MoU by seeking to undermine Iran's management over the strait.

Nikzad said Iran does not recognize any route for transit in Hormuz other than the one agreed with Oman, the other littoral state in the waterway.

He insisted that passage through the strait will only be possible via the corridor introduced by the Iranian armed forces and only under conditions set by the Iranian government.
