Israeli forces, settlers intensify attacks across occupied West Bank

Israeli forces and extremist settlers carried out a series of new raids and attacks across the occupied West Bank overnight Sunday into Monday, targeting Palestinian homes, residents, farmland and property.

The incidents included attacks on homes and agricultural land, the burning of a Palestinian house in Masafer Yatta, the cutting of fruit trees, and the erection of new settlement tents.

In the Ramallah-Nablus area, settlers stormed Khirbet al-Marajem (between al-Mughayyir and Duma) and attacked the home of Turmus Ayya school principal Muhammad Arif Muslim. Muslim and his family were threatened. 

Settlers also attacked Palestinians in the al-Mughayyir plain, entered an excavation area in Deir Jarir, and attacked a Palestinian vehicle traveling between Abu Falah and al-Mughayyir with stones and pepper spray. 

Other incidents included settlers entering the Marj Si’a plain on horseback, grazing livestock on Palestinian land in al-Mughayyir, and entering homes in Arab al-Ka’abneh (east of Ramallah) for the second time.

In the Nablus area, settlers attacked homes in Beita, vandalized greenhouses in Beit Furik, stole an agricultural tractor in Qusra, and erected new settlement tents opposite a Palestinian home in Ras al-Ain.

In Jenin, settlers entered Khirbet Masoud near Ya’bad and cut down dozens of fruit trees in Khirbet Farasin.

In the al-Khalil area, settlers released livestock near residents in Hamroush (east of Sa’ir) and brought cattle onto Palestinian land in Khallat al-Homs (south of Yatta). They also entered the area around Ayoub Abeid’s home and attacked Palestinian property. In Shaab al-Batim, Masafer Yatta, settlers set fire to a Palestinian house.

Israeli forces launched a large-scale raid on Qalandia refugee camp in the central occupied West Bank in the early hours of Wednesday.

Raids and arrests by Israeli occupying forces

Alongside the settler attacks, Israeli occupying forces conducted raids and arrests across Bethlehem, Ramallah, al-Khalil, Nablus, Jenin and Qalqilya.

In Marah Rabah (south of Bethlehem), at least 11 Palestinians were arrested. Two young men were detained in Nahalin, where several vehicles were also confiscated. Further raids were reported in Birzeit and Umm al-Sharayet in al-Bireh. 

In Aboud, Israeli occupying forces arrested former prisoner Mahmoud Shalatwa after raiding his home. Palestinian sources said he had previously spent 10 years in Israeli prisons. 

In Al-Fawwar refugee camp, Israeli forces detained journalist Alaa Sarhanah after raiding and ransacking his home. A house in Masafer Yatta was also raided, with several family members detained. 

Israeli forces additionally raided Balata refugee camp, arresting Raed al-Da’ous, and carried out raids in Beit Furik, Tell and Beita. In Jenin, raids took place in al-Yamoun and Ya’bad. In Qalqilya, forces raided Jayyous and Azzun and arrested Ghassan Adwan.

These incidents highlight the continued pattern of Israeli settler attacks, military raids, arrests and property damage across the occupied West Bank.

The developments come as the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has documented at least 108 attacks by Israeli forces and illegal settlers against Palestinian journalists and media workers in the occupied West Bank in July alone.

Since October 2023, the occupied West Bank has experienced a surge in Israeli military offensives and settler assaults. According to official Palestinian figures, these attacks have killed at least 1,179 Palestinians, injured another 12,666 people, and resulted in the detention of around 24,000 others.

Israel was illegally established in 1948 on Palestinian territory seized by Zionist armed groups. In 1967, the regime went on to occupy the rest of the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East al-Quds.
