IRGC chief: Rezaei will help boost strategic coordination as SNSC secretary
The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has hailed the appointment of veteran military strategist and politician Mohsen Rezaei as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
In a message issued on Monday, the IRGC chief congratulated Rezaei on his appointment as both the SNSC secretary and the representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei to the SNSC.
The IRGC chief praised Rezaei’s strategic vision and experience in coordinating battlefield and diplomacy.
He said Rezaei is one of the country’s distinguished and experienced figures with a strategic, forward-looking vision.
Rezaei’s presence in the SNSC could help advance strategic coordination between the battlefield and diplomacy, as well as political and economic security, with an approach of resistance and hope, he added.
The IRGC commander highlighted Rezaei’s exceptional and distinguished record in various key positions, particularly his 16-year command of the IRGC, including during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.
The commander also underscored Rezaei’s role in founding the IRGC Intelligence Organization, his 24-year tenure as secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council, his role as vice president for economic affairs and his involvement in drafting Iran’s long-term national vision plan.
All these experiences demonstrate Rezaei’s unique ability to manage complex and strategic issues facing the country, he said.
The IRGC is ready to cooperate fully in advancing the goals of the Leader during Rezaei’s tenure, the commander said.
In a decree on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Rezaei as his representative to Iran’s highest national security decision-making body.
The Leader said the appointment was made because Rezaei has extensive experience, particularly in his role as one of the pioneering military commanders during the Sacred Defense (Iran-Iraq War) in the 1980s.
Following the decree, President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed Rezaei as the new secretary of the SNSC.
Mehdi Tabatabaei, a spokesman for the Iranian President’s Office, announced the appointment, saying Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr had stepped down from the secretary position to assume a new responsibility.
